Q: Where are the fire assembly points at Hawkshead, Camden and Boltons Park Farm?

Hawkshead (there are three assembly points):
- On the lawn behind the Eclipse Building, where the three paths meet
- In the large Animal Clinical Centre car park
- In the car park of the Queen Mother Hospital for Small Animals

Camden:
- On the footpath/pavement opposite the Camden campus, ie the other side of Royal College Street

Boltons Park Farm:
- In the main car park

A: In such circumstances please call Security. They will then contact the relevant team/person to deal with the problem.

Q: What do I when I think building maintenace is required or to report a general fault?

A: Non-urgent maintenance requests and general faults are managed through the EOSS.

Q: Can I use the EOSS system for all RVC campuses?

A: Yes, the EOSS covers all of the RVC facilities.

Q: I'm due to move offices, can the porters do this for me?

A: The porters are more than pleased to help you with small removals, but more significant removals (ie heavier goods) may require outside resources. More information can be found in the Porterage section of the Campus Services section of this site and requests for moves can be made through the EOSS

Q: I need to get from Hawkshead to Camden for a 3.30pm meeting. What time does the staff minibus leave the campus?

A: There is a staff minibus that runs at lunchtime from Hawkshead to Potters Bar station, where you can pick up a train to Kings Cross. Click here for the staff minibus timetable.

A: Contact the Hawkshead Reception on 01707 666333 and they will be able to advise you of the cost and take your booking.

Q: How do I get a mobile phone?

Q: How do I report an accident or incident at work?

Q: I'm a new employee, when do I have my Health & Safety Induction?

A: The induction should take place at the earliest suitable time after you start work - please refer to your line manager.

Q: We often see construction projects at Hawkshead. What's the overall plan for this work?

A: There is a 10 year plan for redevelopments at Hawkshead - click here for a copy.

Q: How are the various construction projects funded?

A: The majority are funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), to whom the RVC has to submit a grant application. There are other funding bodies we can approach and we also receive funding through donations to the RVC an/or through commerical sponsorship.

Q: Is the Estate Department aware of the noise and the disruption caused by some of their construction projects?

A: Yes. Unfortunately some construction work is unavoidably noisey at times and we appreciate that this can be occassionally disruptive. However, the various projects are carefully planned to minimize potential site disruption and site logistics. Work is closely monitored by the Estates Department, who police all contruction implementation.

Q: How does the RVC choose contractors? Are there any rules?

A: Yes. Initially a number of contractors are selected (often in terms of there experience) from which a short-list is selected. Those contractors on the short-list are invited to tender for the works, basing their prices on a comprehensive tender doucment put together by the Estates Department. Tenders are sent as 'sealed-bids'. Once received the bids are normally opened and witnessed by senior members of the Estates Department in order to ensure probity.
