Recycling On Campus

Introduction

2010 saw the introduction of a new recycling scheme to the Camden and Hawkshead campuses. Using a commingled system, all waste generated will be split into either “general waste” or “Dry Mixed Recyclables (DMR).”  Also, desks no longer have small bins underneath them, instead a larger bank of bins are situated nearby with full recycling capacity.

The goal will be to reduce waste sent to landfill by 20% during the first 12 months of the scheme through increased recycling. This will include everything from paper, cardboard, and drinks cans to plastic bags, paper cups and plastic bottles. A full list of what can be recycled can be seen below.

What can be recycled and what still has to go to landfill?

Electrical Items
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is covered by the WEEE directive and as such has to be disposed of in a sustainable manor, i.e. recycled, recovered or reused.

If you have any old unused or unwanted  electrical or electronic equipment please contact Dan Messum (x5181) or Sally Burton (x6214) for advice on how to have it disposed of appropriately.

As a general rule, if it isn’t listed as suitable for Dry Mixed Recycling , it belongs in general waste
